Santa is a character created by men and holds no relevance to the true meaning of Christmas. Kids believe that Santa brings them presents and that he lives in the North Pole, always watching their behaviour. Santa was created so as to create more hype for kids and also to possibly control their behaviour during the year – eg. “If you’re naughty, Santa wont bring you any presents this year!”. However, there is no relevance of Santa in the biblical story of Christmas. He is purely a made up character. He may loosely be based on the 4th century bishop St Nicholas.
